Fallen AvengersxValkyrie!Reader Part 8

“I thought you said that this route would save us time. We’ve been walking for seven days.” Clint complained.

“It has saved us time.” Loki argued. “We’ll be in Valhalla by noon tomorrow.”

“That’s wonderful but perhaps we should rest for the night.” You suggested.

“It’s still too early.” Thor argued.

“No, no, (Name) is right.” Alana declared as she fluttered off Loki’s shoulder and returned to her normal size. “A little rest would be well earned.”

Thor sighed.

“Fine. We rest.”

“Oh thank God!” Tony exclaimed, collapsing on the ground.

The clearing that had the honor of hosting the Avengers, you, Alana, and Loki was less defensible than desired, but as you had run into very little difficulty thus far, though you suspected that it had more to do with Alana’s presence than the creatures dwelling in the realm suddenly felling charitable, it would do for the night.

“So, what’s the plan when we actually get to Valhalla?” Steve asked.

“Plan?” You shrugged. “I hadn’t really thought about it.”

“Well we can’t go in there half-cocked.” Tony pointed out. “Surely someone’s thought of something.”

The overwhelming silence that followed was answer enough.

“We should split up into groups.” Natasha said. “That way, at least one of the groups has a chance of getting to the Aldartal.”

“Splitting up isn’t a bad idea.” Loki agreed. “But we’ll need a more defined plan than that.”

“What sort of security does Valhalla have?” Clint asked.

“Mostly rotating guards. But the guards are only on rotation near buildings.” You said.

“So if we travel through the forest, the changes of us being spotted are lower.” Clint mused.

“What’s the terrain like?” Steve asked, always the soldier.

“Mountainous mostly. So much so that many areas can only be accessed through flight.” You fluttered your wings to emphasize your point.

“That could be a problem.” Steve hummed.

“Nonsense.” Loki scoffed. “I can teleport us anywhere we need to go once we get there.”

“So why can’t you just teleport us there instead of making us walk?” Clint asked.

“Magic can be rather unreliable in my realm.” Alana explained. Natasha narrow her eyes.

“And why did we take the Bifrost back in Asgard instead of just teleporting directly to Valhalla?” She demanded. Loki suddenly found the fire Steve had kindled for the group extremely fascinating. Luckily for him, Thor came to the rescue.

“After the battle for New York, Loki was imprisoned on Asgard. When I needed his aid with Jane, I broke him out.” Thor hesitated a moment and you sensed that he was leaving a rather important part of the story out. “When we returned, I bargained with Odin for Loki’s freedom. It was only partly granted. Loki can go anywhere he pleases through any of the realms, however, upon pain of death, he is forbidden from using magic of any kind on Asgard.”

“Reindeer Games? On a leash? Dreams do come true.” Tony mocked.

“Keep in mind, Stark, I am not prohibited from incinerating you in this realm.” Loki hissed.

“Perhaps we should get back to forming a plan.” You suggested tentatively. Loki sucked in a deep breath and nodded.

“How about this, we do as Lady Natasha suggested and split up in groups of two or three. I, of course, will be with (Name), and-”

“Hold up, Rock of Ages, give us one good reason why you should be with (Name).” Tony interrupted.

“Because (Name) must be the only one to handle the Aldartal if at all possible. As with all Infinity Gems, only those with exceptionally strong will and minds may handle their power. Only three here are capable of handling the Aldartal: myself, Alana, and (Name). While it is my hope that (Name) manages to retrieve the Aldartal before we are discovered, the chances of that are low. If I am with her, I can teleport us both to safety.”

“So who’s going with whom?” Bruce asked.

“Science Bros!” Tony declared, wrapping one arm around Bruce’s shoulders.

“I wish to be with Thor.” Alana chirped. “No sense in having all your gem guardians together just to get them all captured.” Thor appeared about to protest getting partnered with someone who so unnerved him but one glare from Loki silenced him.

“I guess that means Clint, Natasha, and I are together then.” Steve said.

“Though it should only take us part of another day, we should get going as soon as possible.” Loki advised.

“Of course.” You agreed. “But sleep first.”

~*~

You had no difficulty in getting to sleep but you were only in dreamland for a handful of hours before you were jolted awake by a scream. You sat up, still half asleep and groggy, and attempted to figure out who the screamer was.

The screaming stopped, replaced instead with hiccupping sobs. Just outside the ring of light created by the dying fire, Loki had his arms around Alana. She was the source of the sobbing and also, you assumed, of the screams.

“They’re here, Loki! They’re going to get them!” Alana tried to wriggle out of Loki’s iron grip but he only held on tighter.

“Alana, listen to me.” Loki commanded. “There is nothing here. Everyone is safe. You’re safe.”

Alana immediately stopped struggling though her tears kept flowing.

“Loki, the curse is coming back! I don’t want to be like this! I don’t want to be broken!”

“No it isn’t. You’re perfectly fine. You just had a nightmare.”

“But Loki I know I was awake.”

“Alana, please, I promise we will deal with this but we just can’t right now. Do you understand?”

“Assuming we live to see sunset tomorrow.” Alana laughed bitterly.

You quickly laid back down before either Loki or Alana could notice you eavesdropping on them and tried to make it seem like you were asleep. Whenever you began to drift off, however, Alana’s words about being broken kept pushing themselves to the front of your mind.

What did she mean by that?
As promised (if a bit late), here is the next part of Fallen. I have been pleasantly surprised with the feedback I've received for this series especially the comments pertaining to dear little Alana. Speaking of her, you may have noticed my bit of self indulgence toward the end. As I have previously mentioned, something is wrong with her. I partly told you what it is but do any of you have any new theories? If you're an Alana fan, her story will be explored more later in another reader fic.

School is going well even if my math grade could be a little higher... I'm probably going to drop by the free tutoring center for the help because even though most of the stuff makes sense once I read it and have the teacher explain it, I'm still getting problems wrong. Screw you, Precalculus. Screw you, good sir.

Ahem, part of the reason this chapter is somewhat short is because of all the action I'm going to squeeze into the next part. I'm working on figuring out some other plot twist (probably involving Odin) to stretch the series out a little longer so if you want to help with that by suggesting ideas, feel free to do so.
